Layering Colours

Layering Colours

Use multiple limewash paint colours together to create more visual texture

Q. Do I need to use more than one colour to create the appearance of texture with limewash paint?

No, limewash paint naturally offers the appearance of texture. With most colours, the look of texture will come with the application of one colour.

The only time you may wish to use two colours is when the colour is very light and you wish for a more textured appearance than a light colour naturally offers. For example, this space uses Hoar Frost and Raw White together to increase the visual texture.

The darker the colour the more texture naturally appears.

Q. I am using white or a pale colour and I wish to create more texture... can I layer my wall with two different Bauwerk Limewash paint colours?

Applying two different colours is a great technique if you want more texture on your walls. It can also create a worn/ lived-in look such as the walls of an old chateau where you see the wall history showing through in different layers.

Simply apply a darker colour of limewash paint for your first coat. Cover this with 1-2 layers of your chosen 'white' limewash. This will allow small areas of darker tone to peek through and provide tonal contrast.
